CrossBoundary Energy

CrossBoundary Energy (CBE) is a leading developer, owner, and operator of commercial and industrial renewable energy systems in Africa and were recently recognized by Africa Solar Industry Association as “Solar Company of the Year” 2022. CBE provides tailored, fully financed renewable energy solutions to its corporate customers allowing them to avoid upfront capital expenditure and technical risks, whilst still benefitting from cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable power.

CBE is currently delivering a portfolio of $188M in projects for 30 corporate customers across 14 countries in Africa, comprising 150 MWp of solar PV assets, 50 MWh of battery energy storage assets, and 12 MW of wind assets. CBE is the renewable energy provider of choice for a number of market-leading companies present in Africa, including Unilever, Diageo, Rio Tinto, Heineken, and AB InBev.

Sun Exchange

Sun Exchange (“SE”) is an award-winning digital platform that enables simple, affordable, world-class solar power solutions for businesses and organisations in emerging markets. Through SE, anyone, anywhere in the world can easily buy solar cells and automatically lease them to be installed in high-impact solar projects, powering businesses and organisations in sunny emerging markets. Solar cell owners offset their carbon footprint while earning from the clean electricity generated.

In turn, businesses and organisations can go solar at no upfront cost, minimising their energy costs and climate impact. Through its innovative platform, SE has facilitated solar power for over 50 businesses, schools, farms, and other organisations in Southern Africa.

Sun King is the world’s largest off-grid solar energy company, serving the 1.8 billion people across Africa and Asia who lack access to reliable electricity. Through innovative product design, affordable pay-as-you-go financing, and a grassroots field team of 15,000 agents providing installation and service, Sun King has powered the lives of over 82 million people. Founded in 2007 as Greenlight Planet, Sun King sets the gold standard for off-grid solar technology as part of its mission: powering access to brighter lives.

CrossBoundary Energy Access

CrossBoundary Energy Access (CBEA) is the first project finance facility for mini-grids, which are small solar-storage grids that bring electricity to rural communities. By using blended finance and an innovative project financing structure, CrossBoundary Energy Access unlocks capital for mini-grids with a mission to bring electricity for the first time to more than 1 million people.
Towards this end, CBEA will deploy a total of $150 million by 2025 to bring clean energy to one million people in Africa.

The mini-grids combine solar and batteries to provide 24/7 grid-quality power to households and businesses. This initiative will enable individual local residential and small business subscribers to access renewable electricity for the first time. These solar powered mini-grids will help bridge the gap by bringing clean electricity to rural areas of Africa that do not presently have access to electricity.
